The Meaning Behind Our Name
The name Oasis Outpost comes from the idea of creating a place of abundance and renewal in the middle of a world that often forgets where food really comes from. An oasis is a place of life, water, and nourishment. An outpost is a point of connection, a beacon where people can gather. Together, Oasis Outpost represents a farm that restores life to the land and offers wholesome food to families seeking something real.
Our animals are raised naturally, with space to roam, fresh air, and healthy pasture. We practice regenerative farming, which means we care for the soil, rotate grazing, and let the land rest so it can give back abundantly. We don’t rush or cut corners-our focus is on animal well-being and a healthy ecosystem.
How We Raise Our Animals
We joke that we are soil famers first and the livestock are our tools. Our soil health is as important as our livestock, and we do everything we can to nourish the earth.
If we have nutrient dense soil, we have nutrient dense grasses. Therefore, if we have nutrient dense grasses then we have nutrient dense meat.
The principles of Regenerative Agriculture are:
Don’t disturb the soil. This means, NO TILLING. When we seed, we don’t plough or disturb the soil. We need to protect our precious topsoil, and every time we disturb the soil we are at risk of more weeds, which means most would resort to use of chemicals. Not us!
Keep the soil covered. This goes hand in hand with the point above. We if keep the soil covered by different plants and root structure, it protects it from the sun and from the heavy frost and increases the water retention-great in a drought!
Keep living roots in the soil. Root action feeds our soil microbes and provides a diverse food system. Soil is alive and needs to eat and drink just as we do. We cannot survive in a desert and neither can our soil. And living roots provide great water holding capacity.
Diversity. This means no monocultures. Diversity supports the whole ecosystem and works with nature, encouraging wildlife and pollination and more. Monocultures are very exclusive and do not support a thriving ecosystem. Which is why we graze cows, pigs, turkeys and chickens since each species adds there own unique beneficials to the soil for better and healthier soil.
Livestock- bring back ranging animals. Livestock provides important nutrients in the form of nitrogen and carbon. Their hooves aerate the soils and spread the organic matter. They are amazing weed control and help clean the air and prevent wildfires.
